Salary Recorder (iPhone)
An iPhone app for recording your monthly pay slips and summarizing and charting them by item.
By entering the data on your pay slip — such as base salary, income tax, and social insurance — every month, this app lets you see the trends and totals of your payments, deductions, and net pay at a glance. Item names are fully customizable, so you can track not only your salary but also income from side jobs, investments, and more. This guide walks you through everything from the basics to the handy features, in order, so even first-time users won't get lost.
1. Screen layout (three tabs)
There are three tabs at the bottom of the screen. You operate the app by switching between them.
2. Getting started (3 steps)
You can record your first salary data in the following three steps.
-
Match the item names to your own pay slip
Open the Menu tab → “Item Settings” → “Payments” / “Deductions”, and rename the items to match your employer's pay slip. Pay-slip items vary by employer, so it's best to set these up first. (You can still enter data with the default names.)
-
Tap a month to enter data
On the Annual tab (Home), tap the month you want to record. Use the edit button in the top right to enter amounts and times for each payment, deduction, and day/time item, then tap Save to confirm.
-
Check trends with summaries and charts
Once you enter data, the yearly totals and per-item charts are displayed. Check the trends of your payments, deductions, and net pay from the Analysis tab or the summary at the top of the Home screen.
3. The “Annual” tab (Home screen)
This is the first screen shown when you launch the app. One year's worth of records (January–December) is listed.
How to read the screen
Shows the totals of Payment, Deduction, and Net for that year. Tap each label to jump to the per-item chart.
Each month's payment, deduction, and net pay are listed. Tap a heading (Year / Month / Payment / Deduction / Net) to sort.
Flick left or right to move to the previous or next year (years 1978–2078 are supported).
Tap a month to open the “Monthly” screen, where you can view and edit that month's detailed breakdown.
4. Entering data (Monthly screen)
This screen opens when you tap a month on the Home screen. It is divided into three parts: “Payment”, “Deduction”, and “Day/Time”. To edit data, tap the button in the top right to open the edit screen. Enter values for each item and tap Save to confirm.
Tap items to calculate a total
On the Monthly screen, tapping an item takes you to a screen where you can select items and calculate their total. This is handy when you want to review multiple allowances or deductions together. Use the note field to freely record memos for that month.
Default items
Payment, Deduction, and Day/Time come with the following items by default (all names can be changed).
| Category | Item names (default) |
|---|---|
| Payment | Base Salary / Overtime Pay / Bonus / Commission |
| Deduction | Federal Income Tax / State Income Tax / Social Security / Medicare |
| Day/Time | Days Worked / Paid Leave / Regular Hours / Overtime (1.5x) / Double Time (2x) / Holiday Hours |
| Custom Rows | Custom 1 / Custom 2 / Custom 3 |
5. The “Analysis” tab (Charts)
A screen for reviewing your recorded data with charts and summaries. You can check per-item breakdowns and trends across years.
Compare the breakdown with a color-coded bar chart per item.
Shows the proportion of each item as a pie chart. You can rotate it with two fingers.
With two or more years of records, you can view per-item trends as a line chart.
Check the percentage increase or decrease compared with the previous year.
7. Useful features & tips
Reminders (avoid forgetting to enter data)
You can set reminder notifications for payday and other dates. If the date falls on a weekend, it can be automatically adjusted to “Previous Friday”, “Next Monday”, or “No Change” (public holidays are not considered). The notification date can be fine-tuned within ±1 to ±14 days.
Passcode lock
You can protect the app with a 6-digit passcode. Useful if you don't want others to see your salary information.
Backup & transferring data
Use “Data Management” → “Backup” to save to iCloud, and “Restore” to bring it back after changing devices, and so on. With “Export”, you can write out your salary records as TSV and JSON files by email.
Using multiple data sets
With “Switch data”, you can use up to 5 data sets. For example, you can record “Main salary”, “Side job”, and “Investment” separately.
Currency format & theme
With “Currency format”, you can change the number of decimal places for amounts (no decimals like yen, or two decimals like dollars/euros). With “App theme”, you can switch to your preferred color scheme.
8. About in-app purchases
You can increase payment and deduction items one at a time, up to 20 each. Adding items also unlocks the following features:
